Our redevelopment plan is progressing according to program. The Project Budget is capped at $3.28 million and includes the first stage of a three stage project.
Stage 1 include:
-
Retention of existing 20 bed Westernport Nursing Home.
-
Development of 12 relocated Acute beds to co-locate with existing 20 bed Westernport Nursing Home.
-
New two room Medical Consulting Clinic.
-
Relocation of Administration to the East Wing.
-
Redevelopment of the old Operating Suite for a dedicated Allied Health area, primarily for Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy.
-
Enlargement of the existing staff work area in Westernport Nursing Home to include additional staff from Acute area as single staff base.
-
Upgrades to Kitchen and Laundry facilities.
Stage 2 was to be part of this project; it was to be a new 6 bed multipurpose Respite Wing for the provision of Respite to people with a disability, dementia, difficult behaviours and palliative care. This service is funded under the National Respite Carers Program by the Commonwealth - the service covers clients from Casey, Cardinia and Bass Coast. If capital funding of $1.5 million is not obtained, then this very valuable service will no longer be able to be offered by Kooweerup Regional Health Service.
Often referred to as the Kooweerup hospital it has a long history as one of Victoria's most effective day surgery operations. The Hospital now has 84 beds made up of Acute Medical/Surgery, Residential Care, Allied Care and District Nursing.
Servicing the health needs of the local community from a familiar central location reduces the need for patients to travel any distance to receive professional health services. The future of Kooweerup Regional Health Service depends on strong links with Government Departments, other Service Providers and importantly, the Community.
