Kooweerup Community Garden Update
Green Corps commenced led by Team Leader Antony Musgrove with a team of 10 participants aged 17-20 years; made good progress with the various areas within the garden including indigenous area, raised garden beds for people with a diability or elderly and the building of a Chook Shed.
A Community Workshop was held on the 19th June, 2008 led by Julie Weatherhead from Peppermint Ridge Farm. This was a very enjoyable day with participants from Green Corps, Kooweerup Secondary College, community members and staff from the Kooweerup Regional Health Service. Indigenous garden area with pond and paths were created, 150 native plants were planted with more aquatic plants and other natives to be planted in Spring.
The Green Corps Launch Celebration was held 30th June, 2008 with presentation by officials from CVGT. Chief Executive Officer - Terrona Ramsay, Marlene Dalziel - CCCHS, Local Council - Doug Hamilton attended, also Nestle Managers Ken Macaloney, Margaret Davidson and Acting Vice Principal Olive Elston from Kooweerup Secondary College. Lots of work went into preparing for the launch and this was well supported by community members and residents and staff from the Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Killara Hostel.
Regular visits have been happening from Kooweerup Secondary College VCAL students; they have been involved in some planning and garden work in general. The School is preparing and planning for a Year 9 Agriculture Course which has commenced this term so we will be looking forward to seeing the students working in the garden.
A Fruit Tree Planting Workshop was held on Tuesday 5th August, 2008. It was beautiful sunny day and 22 varieties of Apples, Peach, Pear, Apricot, Nashi, Nectarines and Mulberries were planted. We are going to have a wonderful Orchard to share with our community.

Kooweerup Primary School participated in two Gardening/Planting Workshops with Julie Weatherhead and Sheree McCurdy supervising. Further participation to occur in the coming months.
