Community Garden |
The students from Kooweerup Secondary College visited the Hospital for an introductory information day and all were very enthusiastic about various elements of creating a Community Garden. They were brainstorming the various elements from planning media and marketing tools, budgeting, to getting down and dirty. This is an exciting project for the students where the fruits of their work will be a gift to the community, laying strong foundations for the garden to grow and grow. A Permablitz (like Backyard Blitz) took place 12th and 13th April, 2008 (see below).

Permablitz Weekend
A fantastic weekend was had by all who participated in the Kooweerup Permablitz (like Backyard Blitz) to create the Community Garden in the grounds of the Kooweerup Regional Health Service. The weather was beautiful on the Saturday with a fantastic turn out from the community to get the edible garden off the ground. Participants were taken through the design of the garden by Permaculture Designer, Paul Fogarty. Workshops were held on creating your own garden using the Permaculture Method, soil and plants, keeping worms and propagation. The rain on Sunday did not dampen the spirits with Workshops held between the showers. The area was sheet mulched and Permaculture Beds built with straw and compost.
The Community Garden is looking for people who would like to participate by donating a few hours of their time regularly to help this garden grow. Contact Aileen on 59 979 679 or Leonie on 59 971 444.
The project is supported by Nestle Environment Grant and the Open Garden Scheme.
