Determinants of Health

Age, gender and genetics undoubtedly influence health, but these are unchangeable factors.  Determinants which can be altered may be placed into four categories: individual lifestyle factors, social and community networks, living and working conditions, and general socio-economic, cultural and environmental factors.

The environment in which people live, work and play are important factors for a health promoting health service.

People who promote health use every opportunity to help individuals, families and communities to improve their health. These activities include processes that assist them to make good health decisions.

The Kooweerup Regional Health Service is committed to becoming a health promoting setting for patients, staff and the community, Health promotion is becoming an integral part of the health care process and is related to clinical, educational, behavioural, and organisational issues. Early intervention and prevention is becoming increasingly important in the management of chronic diseases.

The community garden located at the front of Kooweerup Regional Health Service is a partnership project between the Kooweerup Secondary College and the Kooweerup Health Service.
