Respite

RESPITE SERVICES (Non Residential)

The Respite Service at Kooweerup Regional Health Service was initially proposed and implemented approximately eighteen months ago and made possible by significant, specific funding from the Commonwealth Government.

Since its inception the service has grown and now provides a valuable service to many families in the Casey, Cardinia and Bass Coast areas. The service allows the carer of a person with a disability, dementia, difficult behaviours or palliative care to have a much needed break.

Over the past twelve months the demand for Respite has grown and a high number of clients are returning for repeat stays. The respite offers the carers, the opportunity to have a break and some often much needed time to take care of themselves.

During respite the carers or care recipient are encouraged to bring in items from home and equipment to assist in activities, i.e. laptop computers or needlework. There are currently four funded beds available for this program.
