History

The KooWeeRup Hospital was located in Station Street when it commenced operation on the 11th of April 1921 as a bush nursing hospital.

The hospital became a Public Facility in 1925 but this did not become official until 1947. The Westernport Memorial Hospital was officially opened in 1955 at the present site in Rossiter Road. The Hospital was renamed as Kooweerup Regional Health Services on the 1st of February 1997.

Often referred to as the Kooweerup hospital it has a long history as one of Victoria's most effective day surgery operations. The Hospital now has 84 beds made up of Acute Medical/Surgery, Residential Care, Allied Care and District Nursing.

Servicing the health needs of the local community from a familiar central location reduces the need for patients to travel any distance to receive professional health services. The future of Kooweerup Regional Health Service depends on strong links with Government Departments, other Service Providers and importantly, the Community.

The community garden located at the front of Kooweerup Regional Health Service is a partnership project between the Kooweerup Secondary College and the Kooweerup Health Service.
