About us

The Early Parenting Unit (EPU) has established a reputation for a quality Day Stay Program with positive outcomes that are not only appreciated within the local community but much farther afield.

This program supports parents by providing an early response through telephone triage, screening and risk assessment, navigation of the health system and links to additional resources and referrals.

The program enhances parent's ability to better manage common issues in their baby's first year of life and so enhance their baby's and their own experiences of this important stage.

Our philosophy of empowering parents to recognise the feed, play, sleep cycle of baby's 'normal' development underpins the experience in the unit.

Parents are encouraged to consider their baby's temperament and personality as well as their own, when communicating with their babies.  They gain an understanding of how babies can impact on relationship dynamics and how their baby's behaviour can differ from their parent's expectations.

The staff support parents in understanding and normalising some of the common emotions associated with parenting, i.e. anxiety, stress and fatigue and offer practical suggestions and support in managing these feelings.

The Early Parenting Unit is open Monday to Friday between 8.00 a.m. - 4.00 p.m. with client days being Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday 8.30 a.m. - 3.30 p.m.
