Rural and Regional Public Hospitals have Boards who are responsible for setting the strategic directions of Public Health Care Services within the framework of Government Policy. The Board is accountable to the Government and the community it serves for ensuring the provision of agreed services within the resources available. Functions of the Board include:
Determining the broad policies within which the service is to be operated.
Establishing reporting mechanisms to monitor the performance and audit processes and ensuring they comply with the Financial Management Act 1994.
Maintaining proper accountability to Government by observation of legislative requirements, ensuring that the service meets the terms of their Health Service Agreement.
Ensuring all services provided by the Health Service comply with the requirements of the Health Services Act 1988 and the overall vision of this service.
