Early Parenting Unit

The Early Parenting Unit (EPU) provided by Kooweerup Regional Health Service provides a Day Stay Program which can assist parents of babies aged between birth and twelve months to adjust to some of the common challenges of being a parent.

This is a free Public Hospital Facility that can help parents with the following:

  • Developing parenting skills and increasing confidence.

  • Reducing stress and anxiety.

  • Enhancing parental enjoyment.

  • Developing sensitivity to a baby's cues/signals.

This program addresses the needs of each family by providing information and support regarding a range of parenting issues including:  normal childhood development, techniques to soothe and settle infants and assistance with feeding either by breast or bottle.

The Early Parenting Unit is staffed by a multi-disciplinary team of:

  • Midwives and Mothercraft Nurses.
  • Registered Nurses – Division 1 & 2.
  • General Practitioner.
  • Psychologist.
  • Social Worker.

The Early Parenting Unit also provides observation and screening for any underlying difficulties and can refer parents to appropriate services as required.

The community garden located at the front of Kooweerup Regional Health Service is a partnership project between the Kooweerup Secondary College and the Kooweerup Health Service.
